Looking after your slime properly is the key to keeping it smooth, stretchy and fun to play with. Whether you are new to slime or already a pro, the right care helps your slime stay in great condition for weeks and months. This guide covers everything you need to know, from first play to storage, activation, maintenance and fixing common issues. it is important to remember that slime is a perishable product and requires maintenance to keep its texture and consistency at the right levels.
1. Unpacking Your Slime and Your First Play Session
When your slime arrives, open the jar and use a finger to gently touch the slime. If it feels a little soft or melted from transit, that’s normal. Warm temperatures can soften the glue-based compound. You can easily fix this with the activator kit included in your order. Just follow the instructions below in Section 3.
Before you start playing with your slime:
- Wash your hands with soap
- Make sure your play surface is clean. This helps prevent dirt, dust or oils getting in and affecting your slime’s texture.
After each play:
- Return your slime to its airtight container
- Store it in a cool area away from heat and sunlight, to reduce the risk of it ‘melting’ or losing texture.
If this is your first time playing with slime, have a look at our YouTube video here.
2. Understanding Slime Levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert
At Cyber Slimes, each product is tagged with a slime play difficulty level. This helps you know how the texture will feel and how to handle it.
- Beginner: These slimes are going to be the ones that are easier to play with as they are almost non-sticky and easy to handle, especially if you have never played with slime before.
- Intermediate: These slimes are better suited for someone who has played with slime before and tend to have a slightly stickier texture when played with, compared to beginner level slimes.
- Expert: These slimes are recommended for people who consider themselves a slime pro! This is because they are much stickier to your hands if you are not quick with your movements.
When your slime arrives, check the product page where we’ve tagged which level your slime is, so you know how to treat it with care accordingly.
3. Using Your Activator Kit and DIY Activation Powder
Each order includes:
- A thank you card
- An activator instruction card
- Activation powder so you can make your own Slime Activator
How to set it up:
- Follow the card instructions to dissolve the powder in water.
- Label the container so you know it’s your activator mix.
- Store it in a safe spot (away from children/pets).
- When your slime needs activation: use a few drops, knead in, test the texture, repeat if needed.
- If you ever run out or lose your kit, you can re-purchase more activator from our Slime Care page.
4. Slime Care and Maintenance Tips
Is your slime sticky or too soft?
If your slime feels sticky, doesn’t hold shape, or has softened too much (especially after arrival or warm play):
- Use the activator kit included in your order to restore the slime texture.
- How to use: add a few drops of the activator solution at a time, kneading it into the slime until you reach the consistency you like. Don’t rush or add too much, over-activation can make the slime stiff or brittle. We recommend this is done under adult supervision. Make sure to wash your hands afterwards or use gloves during this process.
- If your slime is becoming stiff or hard (especially if it’s been stored in cooler conditions):
- Clear-based slimes: keep the closed container in a warm place for a few days so it softens. You can also add a little glycerin and knead until you like the feel. You can grab some glycerin in our Slime Care Kit here.
- Opaque slimes: add a little glycerin (or unscented lotion) and knead until you like the feel. You can grab some glycerin in our Slime Care Kit here.
Is your slime melting or losing shape?
- If your slime starts to lose volume, deflate or melt (especially after play or in heat), this is expected over time. Store it in its sealed tub, in a cool area. Limit play time to around 10-15 minutes and keep hands clean and dry.
- Note: Slime is a sensory toy, not food. Never ingest it and keep away from children under 3 years old.
5. Slime Re-Activation Cycles (To keep your slime feeling fresh)
At Cyber Slimes, our slimes are made with quality ingredients. However, the chemical process that creates slime naturally breaks down over time and will occasionally need re-activation.
Here are our recommended re-activation cycles to keep your slime in great playing condition:
- Regularly: approximately every 2-3 weeks
- Once in a while: approximately every 1-1.5+ months
- Rarely: approximately every 6+ months
- Almost never: approximately every 12+ months
These are indicative and based on texture and how you’re playing with it. Too much activation too often can cause the slime to rip or become stiff.
Extra tip: if your slime is only slightly sticky after play, it may just need a rest rather than a full activation.
For information on your slime’s specific activation cycle, just head over to the product page on our website.
6. Removing Slime from Clothes or Surfaces
Got a bit of slime on clothes, carpet or another surface? It happens.
Try a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and cold water. Test a small patch first, then spray a little, brush gently and blot with paper towel.
Repeat if needed until the slime is removed.
7. Quick Checklist for Best Slime Play Results
- Clean hands & surface before play
- Keep active play sessions moderate (~10-15 min)
- Store in airtight container, cool, out of direct heat
- Use activator only when needed (not as a routine every play)
- Know your slime level (Beginner/Intermediate/Expert) and adjust how you play
- Save the activator mix for multiple uses
